Email Copywriting

email copywriting

Writing the autoresponder series is where most email marketers fall on their asses. The two most common errors they make with email copywriting is to either write them in the same style and tone they use for their blog posts and articles or they rush them and they end up reading like a note asking mother to pick up some milk on the way home.

Top email copywriters charge big bucks and with good reason but here's the thing, you don't need to be an expert copywriter to make money from an opt-in list you just need to be ok at it.

Just stick to these basic tips to email copywriting and you should end up with an autoresponder series that will make you money.

Build Trust With Your Subscribers

Write your copy as if you are talking one to one with the person. When I write an autoresponder series I have a mental picture in my head of the person whom I believe to be my typical subscriber. You have to build trust and to do that you need to get personal.

Keep your really good stuff for your subscribers. They are the people who have shown you a form of loyalty by signing up to see what else you have to say to them so repay that with info they won't find on your or another marketers site.

"The money is in the list" to be blunt is a pile of BS. Give me a list of just 10K who know and trust me and I will make a lot more than someone with a list of half a million people who are fed up of being sent nothing but an affiliate link to the latest product on the market.

Always Use a Call To Action

Another common error made by marketers when attempting email copywriting is to only use a call to action in the emails that they are trying to get a sale with. By always including one in your emails though you are getting your subscribers used to clicking on a link when they get a message from you.

It can be a link to further info or to an example of something you have described. Better yet it could be a new free report you have had created for them on the subject. When your suscribers are used to clicking a link at the end of your messages, getting the sales becomes easy.

Keep Your Emails Short

More and more emails are now read on mobile devices rather than the home PC. By keeping your email copywriting to the point you can help increase the amount of people who read your message rather than just skim it.

Create Great Subject Lines

I can spend more time on the subject line than on the message but it pays to because I have an above average opening rate. Use curiosity by asking a question so they just can't resist opening the email. Use a warning to spark an emotion of self protection ie. 'Avoid these at all costs" will have the reader wanting to know what it is they need to keep away from.

Don't use tricks to deceive your subscriber into opening their email, remember you are building trust.

Track Results

Finally, test and track everything so you can tweak and improve your autoresponder series over time. By your 3rd or 4th niche you will find email copywriting much easier but all markets respond differently so don't assume what worked for you in one market will work just as well in another.
