This is what your prospect sees as soon as they click on your ad so it is vital you use the best landing page design that you can. While the job of your ad was to get the click, the job of your landing page is to seal the deal by turning a potential customer into a subscriber.
To do this it needs to do one thing and that is to direct the viewer to the sign up form and convince them to enter in their details.
There are several tried and tested landing page designs but lets start with the very popular and easy basic squeeze page where we offer something of value for free in exchange for their subscription.
Sidebar: Video squeeze pages are very popular at the moment but they cost either money, your time or both to produce and why waste either until you have tested the market?
The first and most important part of the landing page design is the headline. In the example below you can see the headline is not full of hype but the words have been chosen carefully. Power words like ‘secret’ ‘cool’ and ‘learn’ have been used and it entices the reader to want to find out more.
A few more sentences on the left followed by 4 bullet points that drive home the exact benefit the prospect will gain from entering their details to receive the product.
Then there is the clear call to action telling the prospect exactly what to do.
It’s clear, crisp and uncluttered and most of it would be above the fold so the prospect doesn’t have to scroll down to see more. This type of landing page design will work in a multitude of niches and can be created quickly and easily in any html editor.
Another similar squeeze page design shown below but this one uses a graphic to represent the free report being offered. Ebook covers have been shown to greatly improve conversions and in the niche this particular landing page design is being used in, you need any advantage you can get.
The headline color, the ticks used for bullet points, yellow highlighting, red dashes around the opt-in form, all these are known to increase conversions. The only thing I would change on this landing page to increase conversion rates would be to add a dollar value to the report.
Landing Page Optimization
The best landing page design will not fare well in search results. They should lack everything that is required for good SEO which is why we use email advertising and other paid methods of driving traffic to them.
They should have no other links on them apart from to your privacy policy. No sidebars, no home page link, nothing. The prospect should only have 2 choices, fill in the form or close the window. This is why they are also known as squeeze pages.
Because of this design style Google doesn’t like landing pages so you can’t use Adwords to promote them without drastically changing the web design.
Best Landing Page Design
- The landing page must be a continuation of your ad. If your ad promised something in exchange for a click make sure it delivers on that promise.
- Don’t worry about SEO, only worry about conversion rates.
- Different designs work for different niches so experiment.
- Keep your design uncluttered.
- Avoid hype in your copywriting but use words that power emotions.
